Long-grain rice is rice whose grains are more than 6 millimetres long. The earliest traces of rice cultivation, dating back to the middle of the 5th millennium, were found in Thailand, and from there it spread around the world. In Chinese culture, it was even used in ceremonial rites by the emperor himself. The word rice appeared in the Ukrainian language late, until the beginning of the XIX century it was usually called ‘Saracen grain’ or ‘Saracen wheat’. Long-grain rice has a white colour, smooth, even and slightly transparent grains. This rice can be called universal. You can use it to make Uzbek pilaf, Spanish paella or just Ukrainian porridge with butter.
